Experiential Therapy is a guided activity, a game, a mental puzzle to work out, time in nature, or a physical challenge to support clinical growth done with a clinician in individual or group therapy. Experiential Therapy provides hands-on, engaged, holistic experiences aimed at exploring, better understanding, and resolving clinical issues. The experience is a conduit that gives rise to words, thoughts, feelings, and future actions that the client would not have found through traditional talk therapy alone.

Clinical supervision of Experiential Therapists
We have been using the clinical modality of Experiential Therapy with Clients for over 25 years. It works really well with Children, Youth, Families, Couples and Groups. We have found that hard to reach populations like: human trafficking survivors, veterans and military service members, individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs), juvenile justice-involved youth, and grief groups find the intervention to be more authentic, less forced, and at their own pace than talk therapy.
Experiential Therapy offers an exploration of clinical segues and metaphors of client’s concerns, allowing them to safely move out of their comfort zone and into a place of new insights of self-discovery, confidence building, self-awareness, and new methods of how to cope with issues in their lives.
We have written extensively in both academic journals and clinical publications about Experiential Therapy. We have a forthcoming book: Understanding and Effectively Utilizing Experiential Therapy:A Mindfulness and Trauma Sensitive Approach to Extending Talk Therapy by Julie Anne Laser & Nicole Nicotera published by Oxford University Press.
We have presented domestically and internationally at conferences and trainings on Experiential Therapy.
We have completed and published rigorous IRB approved academic research and have ongoing research projects on the effectiveness of Experiential Therapy.
We have taught the clinical process of Experiential Therapy to Clinical Social Work Graduate Students and other Clinicians for over 10 years. We provide clinical supervision to new Experiential Therapists.
We find Experiential Therapy to be a great opportunity for growth, self-discovery, resilience, and well-being.
We hope you join us!
